We earlier posted a story on the release of Android 4.1′s source code
which will pave the way for custom ROMs to reach [some] Android devices
with varying clock speeds and screen sizes which is great news to us
‘flashers’. Now, it’s the Galaxy Nexus owners’ time to shine.
Google has just announced [through their
official Google+ Nexus page] that they’ve started sending out the
Android 4.1 Jellybean update to GSM/HSPA+ flavors of their Galaxy Nexus
phone.
Carrier versions of the device (locals who happen to own an AT&T
and T-Mobile Nexus phones) should expect the latest Android version
within the next few days as well. It’s worth noting that all Nexus
devices (with the inclusion of Motorola’s Xoom tablet) bound for
shipping later this month will be running Jellybean right out of the
box.
So far, the build version of Android 4.1 currently existing is the
JRO03C with more to follow. JRN84D and IMM76I are said to be confirmed
for ‘takju’ units. To those of you who can no longer wait for the update
notification, you can try flashing the JRO03C build by downloading the
zip file here.
The Android 4.1 Jellybean is Google’s latest iteration of the Android
platform. This version hosts an array of under-the-hood upgrades and
several new features such as a revamped notification bar, ‘Google Now’ —
the search giant’s take on Apple’s virtual assistant ‘Siri’, better
keyboard, ‘Buttery’ graphics and many more… For a detailed summary of
the changes in Android 4.1, please click here.
